Celebrating Success: April 2023 Awards Round Up
Our awards highlights from 2023 so far...
We’re pleased to say that a number of our wines have brought home some fantastic results already this year. This highlights yet again the quality of our offering and brings much-deserved recognition for the hard work that our winemakers put in throughout the year! Here’s a selection of just a few of the stand-out gold medal winners:
Gilbert & Gaillard
Long Little Dog Rouge, 2022
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
“Fairly deep red, purple tints. Attractive nose of stone fruit, blackcurrant bud and black berry fruit. Structured and full of flavour on the palate, very tannic yet with beautifully wrapped texture.”
Master Selection Côtes du Rhône Rouge, 2021
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
“Medium-deep red, youthful glints. True-to-type nose mixing ripe red and black fruit with an unmistakeable whiff of pepper. Uncontrived on the palate, squarely focused on the fruit and underpinned with well-judged tannin.”
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
Master Selection Côtes du Rhône Villages, Vaison la Romaine, 2021
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
“Red with violet glints. Expansive nose of ripe stone fruit mixed with mineral and slightly vegetal touches. Clearly fruit-driven on the fleshy palate, but also with a certain chewiness that adds body to the whole. A complete, solid offering.”
Master Selection Pinot Noir, 2021
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
“Very pale red. Pleasant nose of red and black berry fruit with a nuance of oak in the background. Delicate and supple on the palate with caramelised wood flavours.”
Mundus Vini
Les Oliviers Merlot Mourvedre, 2021
Mundus Vini Gold
Brightly perfumed fruit, a hint of lavender, then classic Merlot flavours: ripe red summer berries, plums and damsons. Mourvèdre shows its grip with warm spice and a green, herby edge on the finish.
Sakura
Wild House Pinotage 2021
Sakura Double Gold, Grand Prix for Asian Cuisine “Thai, Pairing for Japanese Cuisine “Sukiyaki”, Pairing for Asian Cuisine “Chinese”
Wild House is a place of raw energy, a weather-beaten hut exposed to the storm-swept slopes of the mountains where this wine was conceived. From established trellised vineyards on Paarl’s deep sandy loams, our Pinotage is a bright, juicy expression of this national cultivar.
Shadow Point Pinot Noir, 2019
Gilbert & Gaillard Gold
From vineyards in Monterey, California’s Central Coast region and sit next to a chain of hills which separate the vineyards from the Pacific coast. The name Shadow Point relates to the shadows which form over the vineyard as the setting sun falls in the west, behind the neighbouring hills.
Shanghai International Wine Challenge
Coterie by Wildeberg Semillon Sauvignon, 2021
Shanghai International Wine Challenge Gold
A harmonious blend of barrel fermented, old vine Franschhoek Semillon with Sauvignon Blanc from high altitude vineyards in Stellenbosch. Made with Wildeberg’s cornerstone philosophies of minimal intervention winemaking, wild ferment and coarse filtration to capture the essence of the source vineyards and soils.
