Canned Wines: Success and Sustainability
Small containers, huge category.

The cracks are beginning to show in glass bottles as the standard wine packaging. Demand for convenient, sustainable packaging is increasing, and canned wine ticks all the boxes.
Success
The canned wine category has proven much more successful than critics initially assumed it would be, with UK consumer numbers growing by 188% since 2019, and sales across Europe almost doubling in the same amount of time.
Key figures*:
- Sales in Europe are predicted to reach 311m unit sales in 2024
- Canned wines have seen 65% year-on-year growth in the last 5 years
- 22% of shoppers who have purchased canned wines repeat purchase in the same year

Sustainability
Consumers are more environmentally minded than ever before, with data showing that millennials in particular favour the canned wine category for convenience and portability**.
