Small containers, huge category.

The cracks are beginning to show in glass bottles as the standard wine packaging. Demand for convenient, sustainable packaging is increasing, and canned wine ticks all the boxes.

Success

The canned wine category has proven much more successful than critics initially assumed it would be, with UK consumer numbers growing by 188% since 2019, and sales across Europe almost doubling in the same amount of time.

Key figures*:

  • Sales in Europe are predicted to reach 311m unit sales in 2024
  • Canned wines have seen 65% year-on-year growth in the last 5 years
  • 22% of shoppers who have purchased canned wines repeat purchase in the same year

Sustainability

Consumers are more environmentally minded than ever before, with data showing that millennials in particular favour the canned wine category for convenience and portability**.

  • Cans are the most commonly recycled container in the world
  • Our cans are printed, not wrapped, making them 100% recyclable
  • Cans can be recycled infinitely, with no loss of quality
  • The recycling process can take as little as 60 days from bin back to shelf

Environmental impact:

  • Cans can be stacked to make maximum use of storage

  • One pallet can carry up to four times more filled cases of cans than bottles
  • A truck can carry up to 2.5 times more beverage when contained in cans

  • Lower weight means lighter loads for air freight: an empty 250ml can weighs only 12g
  • Cans are shatter proof, making them ideal for transportations: a great option for e-commerce and home delivery

  • Cans have a 60% lower carbon footprint than glass bottles, using 50 times less energy to produce
