Belles Lettres Rouge, AOP Côtes du Rhône 2021

Boutinot France

The southern Rhône has always been a source of inspiration for Boutinot. Belles Lettres is a category of writing in French, originally meaning beautiful or fine writing. Winemaker Eric Monnin likens it to the way he makes his wines; crafting something of pure beauty. A writer of Belles Lettres is a 'belletrist’.

Production

We have worked in the southern Rhône for over 30 years and have built enviable relationships with a network of local growers in the region. As a result, we are able to source from vineyards across the Côtes du Rhône, choosing plots based on the different attributes each parcel of fruit will bring to the blend. These grapes are hand-picked before being carefully destemmed and vinified using traditional ‘minimal intervention’ techniques. This wine is made without the use of oak to retain the pure fresh fruit character.

Tasting notes

Soft, smooth and appealingly fruity; good Côtes du Rhône should be a crowd-pleaser. This is full-flavoured and rich with a hint of savoury spice on the finish, typical of well-sunned Grenache which dominates the blend.

Food match

Really easy drinking, this wine can be enjoyed on its own. It's a great accompaniment to a summer BBQ: sausages, grilled halloumi, and burgers.
