Production
'Coup de Grace' is a premium Vaucluse blend made exclusively by Boutinot for The Edinburgh Wine Company. Vines from the Vaucluse region lie just outside the perimeter of the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation and here a variety called Caladoc, a Grenache / Malbec cross created in 1958, is permitted. Medium to full bodied, Caladoc makes a fifth of the blend along the same proportion of Grenache Noir and three fifths Syrah. After vinification in stainless steel tanks the wine is aged for 6 months in barrels previously used to mature Scotch Whisky.
Tasting notes
This wine displays a nose of deep, ripe blueberry jam and juniper. Bodly textural with flavours of rich fruit cake and dark bramble fruit. Enormously long wood smoke finish.
Food match
Venison or grouse game pie or a veggie haggis.
